Hi, I am Eunah Rachel Kim.
I am a devout Christian girl from South Korea with many interests,
all around the globe.
I dance with my paints and fight with my words.
I shout for those who don't have voices and listen to the songs of the forest.
I have endeavored to my utmost capabilities to create a voice for myself. Our society is one created off the bases of individual flourish – of diversity and the way reactions to a diverse society has molded a community to become its current. But in experiencing life’s full spectrum of emotions and being able to forge deeper into the essence of being human, we need to be able to speak our own voices. Individually we come from diverse backgrounds – we stem from cultural divergence, yet we have found a way to unite as a global community and the way I believe such was initiated was through the ability to use individual voices to influence others. Therefore I have begun to create a voice for myself, etching slowly up on volume.
In the beginning, it was a simple whisper.
A word on a page.
A single step.
The first movement.
But as the words began to build up and the world’s choreography began to sway to my music, the volume began to turn up. I’ve written pages upon pages of stories, I’ve danced the earth immeasurable amounts of times, and I’ve swayed all throughout, to my beat. I was always screaming in myself, and now I come upon the world in more than a whisper. I’m growing every single day, every minute, every movement, every step, every word. I have a voice, and that has helped me internalize my identity, my culture, my priorities, my influences and my diversity. But when I looked around, glowing in this newfound voice, I saw others. Not even able to whisper. And so I held up a microphone through my dance, through my writing, so they could talk. I translated their movements. I’m a writer, a dancer, and through those, I speak for those who can’t. I have begun offering my voice in multiple charities, to people unable to speak but are screaming – have been screaming since Day 1. Dance is a universal communication, and it comes upon everyone. Through that, I attempt to translate other people’s voices. Whether physically, emotionally, mentally, racially, culturally silenced, my goal in life that I believe has already begun to help many is to speak, to become a voice for those who have been silenced.
